Two weeks ago, we used our Tuesday night meeting to honor our 2020 graduates! From the picture below, the grads were: Jordan and Taylor on the top row, Sarah M and Jeremy (Cheng Sun) on the middle row, and Stephanie and Sarah B on the bottom line. We had a simple format - Everyone was given a chance to affirm and encourage each graduate; then the graduate got a chance to share a favorite memory from their time in Blue Hens for Christ and/or how they saw God working on campus.
I praised Jordan for helping to bring the apologist Ravi Zacharias to UD last fall. I affirmed Taylor for her love for children (she wants to be a nurse in a children's hospital). I remembered Sarah M’s great love for sharing her faith with friends and family. I recounted Jeremy’s and my shared experience last fall helping a homeless man. I applauded Stephanie’s servant heart and her willingness to clean the campus house, while others affirmed how boldly she shared her faith. I recollected my conversations with Sarah B as some of the first actions I took getting to know her and the other students before my family’s move to Delaware.
Other realizations included Jordan's first retreat being the one I spoke at in 2016! And how Sarah M almost never became part of our ministry! It was a church member who went out the front door of the campus house to keep her from leaving and welcomed her inside. We also had a great laugh remembering a special night when we planned Sarah M a little birthday party and she was nowhere to be found. Turns out she had a bad migraine earlier in the day; that didn't stop some students from hunting her down in her dorm and still bringing her to the campus house. She forgave us, and we celebrated that night together. Taylor recalled how Alex, on her own birthday, wanted to take Taylor out to lunch. At the time, she thought how wonderfully strange that was, but it was one of many things God did to bring Taylor to Jesus. Wrapping things up, Stephanie spoke what was on all our minds as she described the intimacy that you could feel in BHC.
There was a lot of laughter and a few tears. I was humbled by all the work God had done in the students’ lives and blessed that I had got to play a small part in their time at UD. It was a little bit of heaven on earth - a bright light in the darkness this virus has brought. It was the best zoom meeting I've ever had.
Please pray for our grads as they seek employment in these uncertain times!
Blessings,
Casey
