A Visit and a Vision

Nov 16, 2023

Dear BHC and Reflect Campus Missions Supporters,

This month I’d like to give an update on our larger vision! Most of what I share involves our efforts on campus and impacts on students' lives. Today I’d like to step back and show you how God has been bringing individuals to our ministry who are helping us expand and train up more young people for campus missions!

Near the end of October we hosted Chris Buxton here in Delaware. Chris and his wife Monica came up from Arkansas to visit and Chris guest spoke at Newark Church of Christ as well as BHC. Chris is a long time friend of mine, and I believe God has raised him up to help our ministry gain traction in a meaningful way. He has 23 years of experience as a campus minister at Arkansas Tech and Arkansas State, and more recently he started ULife Consulting (@ulife_coaching on Instagram). With this business, he travels the US coaching existing campus ministries and looking for ways to assist ministry plants. In addition he teaches a campus ministry course at Harding University and mentors a group of ministry minded students who reach out to their peers at Harding. When he isn’t busy with these responsibilities he participates in our work as a member of the Reflect Board.

With this background, I’d like to share how Chris is helping us at Reflect! He has compiled a list of all the apprenticeships that are being offered around the country, and of course, Delaware is on that list. When Chris travels and makes contact with a student who is interested in campus ministry, he will encourage them to consider Delaware! This is how we got our current female apprentice, Lauran Brady! He created a 9-hour campus ministry certificate program at Lipscomb University that provides great training for apprentices and newer campus ministers (https://www.lipscomb.edu/academics/programs/master-arts-christian-ministry-cbe). Lauran is planning to start this Lipscomb certification in the Spring of 2024 and possibly roll this training into a Masters degree down the road! Our previous apprentice Conner Brown is currently working on completing his undergraduate degree, but he had a good conversation with Chris while he was here. Conner still hopes to find his way into campus ministry when the timing is right and has considered the Lipscomb training as well. When our apprentices begin to seriously consider places to plant new campus ministries, Chris will travel with them to help vet the location and make sure the dynamics are healthy for all involved--churches, campus ministry, and newly trained apprentices!

I hope you can see how hopeful we are with these new pathways for finding, training, and sending apprentices! Please be praying for Chris and our partnership. These are exciting times and with your prayers, God will continue to lead us to more apprentices and onto more campuses!

For the campus and the kingdom,

Casey
