Casey Coston and his family moved to Delaware one year ago so he could assume the position of campus minister at Blue Hens for Christ! Since Casey has begun serving with us, I (Rusty) have transitioned to the role of Campus Missions Planting, where I have been focusing on recruiting, training, and planting new outreach and disciple-based missions throughout the U.S. Our transition in ministry, including the complications added by COVID, has been unique, but Casey and I are excited about how God is providing for us and growing his kingdom!
One year from his arrival, Casey will be joined by two apprentices, coming to live in Delaware this Fall. We have partnered with two young men: Zach Douma, an Oklahoma Christian graduate and Conner Brown, a student from Arkansas Tech. These young men took a step of faith and moved to Delaware to focus on growing God’s kingdom by transforming lives for Christ and developing disciples and leaders. Our prayer, as they teach and lead, is that they might become closer with their heavenly Father, and grow as leaders themselves so they can go and plant vibrant campus missions two years from now.
In addition to Casey, our existing staff, and our two new recruits, Zach and Conner, we will also be joined in mission by a returning UD alum – Jeremy! God continues to provide and equip this ministry with people who love Him and desire to reach the lost in our small part of the world. It has been a pleasure watching Jeremy grow over the past 5 years – From when he joined BHC as an international student, to his baptism, and now as he joins us in ministry as an intern. We believe that he is uniquely equipped to touch the lives of internationals and Americans alike.
You may be asking, “Its wonderful you have all this help in the ministry…but will you even have any students to reach out to this semester?”
As many of you may have heard, The University of Delaware is switching to a hybrid model of schooling for the Fall semester. The majority of classes will be exclusively online, and only about four to five thousand students will be returning to campus. Despite the low volume of students, we already have ongoing Bible studies from connections made during the summer! We also have multiple remote studies with international students who have returned home; some have even invited friends to join the studies! It is a joy to see past and current students stepping up to more passionately live out their faith during this chaotic time. I believe God will continue to place His people in the path of those who are struggling with anxiety and stress so we can help guide them to his glory!
Please be praying for the seeds God has watered, and for those he has yet to plant! Also, keep an eye out in the next few weeks for an email update from Casey as the students get back to school!
